July 14 Day 43 100 miles
We were able to continue on back roads with light traffic almost all the way to Erie, PA, where we spend the night. There are still many homes and small farms. The group got split up during the middle of the day, but many of us reconnected at the second SAG stop at a dairy bar. An ice cream shake never tasted so good.
We were early for hotel check-in, so Michael and I rode out onto Lake Erie, via the peninsula stretching out into the lake. We were able to look back on some of the city from there.

There were ample opportunities for water........And a morning SAG in an empty lot.
We enjoyed watching the scenery in all its variety. We are starting to see wineries. There are still lots of farms, and we came across a covered bridge today.
This was a fun and very busy dairy bar, where we stopped for refreshments .
Near the end of the day, we crossed into Pennsylvania, our 10th state.

The extra ride onto the Lake Erie bike path made this into a century.
You will really be spending only one day riding across PA? But if you're in Erie, I am guessing that you are just nipping across the northwest corner of the state. In driving Annie down to G-burg, I've always wondered at what a huge, wide state PA is, and we get less than half way across the state, from east to west. Beautiful country, though, and fabulous biking I will bet. Great pic of Youngstown, with that lovely brick building.
Speaking of (and eating) delish strawberries, yesterday Chiharu and I drove up to New Gloucester and picked strawberries and peas, then continued on to the Snack Shack at Sabbathday Lake, then to the Shaker store, then to New Gloucester Village…
