June 30 Day 29 85 miles

We left at 6;30 again due to the hot weather forecast. It made it into the 90s, but thankfully, didn't break 100 degrees. This made the day a bit more tolerable.

The morning ride moved along quickly, and we were soon at the Missouri River. Due to flooding, the van had to drive us around the usually crossing, to the point intersecting our route on the other side.

There was a notable change in the riding, once we reached Missouri. There are rolling hills, with plenty of climbing, and we are having to stand up on the peddles for the first time in a week. There are still corn fields, following the curves of the land, and broken up by rows of trees and homes.

We are now in St Joseph, Missouri, where we spend our rest day tomorrow.

We had our first SAG at a gas station, and it was fun to see farmers filling their machinery at the pumps.

Our path across the river that was blocked by barriers and, of course, water.

As a consequence, we had to load our bikes on the van to get us to the other side, and then unload for the onward passage.

We still see corn fields, but now with some contour. The continuous rolling hills are a pleasant change from the flatlands of Kansas, but make bike riding a challenge!

There are still small towns, that make a natural place for a SAG stop.

Tonight we bunk in St Joseph, MO.
