July 4 Day 33 90 miles

Our last day of riding in Missouri was much like the days before. The temperature hit 90, with partly cloudy skies, threatening to rain. There were hills to climb all day, and fields of hay and corn, but few towns.

I had a small equipment failure in the morning and needed help with my bicycle chain, that ultimately had to be replaced at the first SAG stop.

We crossed the Mississippi River into Quincy, Illinois at the end of the day, and we have bedded down in Quincy for the night.

We start out the day on familiar roads climbing hill after hill.

When my chain failed, I was lucky to be riding near Jim Benson, who had the tools and knowhow, to get me back on the road. The temporary fix needed something more permanent and I had a new chain installed at the SAG station.

The good news was that there was a cafe right across the street at the SAG, and they had a piece of pie with my name on it.

We traveled through familiar landscape all day. There are few towns and occasional homes and farms.

Our second SAG stop was at a store with a hunting theme. I think that the deer heads are decorated for the fourth of July.

We cross the Mississippi into the town of Quincy Illinois.

Quincy looks like the town that Superman (Clark Kent as a boy) grew up in.
