June 23 Day 22 121 miles

The stars aligned for an ideal day today. We knew that we would log more miles today than any other day this trip. The original forecast was for rain, which didn't materialize. Temps were moderate, skies were blue and we had a tail wind all day, delivering us to Lamar, CO by 2:30 in the afternoon!

We are now in the plains, with lots of wide open space, a few cattle and scattered ranches. It is nice to have some small towns to ride through at last. However, the landscape doesn't change much, so there are few photo stops.

We rode through the high plains of eastern Colorado all day. The landscape doesn't change much. Those are cattle in the middle photo, and a roadside fruit market at the bottom.

We are now seeing a more interesting variety of plant life.

We passed through a number of small towns today.

La Junta is clearly proud of its importance to the railroads. We found this fun sign in the middle of town..

Never ridden that far in one day. When the train goes by, put your arm up and pull down and sometimes the train driver will honk his horn. I found that I saw very few humans on these kind of roads--long driveway, huge field. Best to your amigo buddies-- they will be life long friends!!
