June 15 Day 14 75 miles

We started in Provo, under sunny skies, in cool weather. It stayed cool as we entered the canyon leading up to Soldier Pass. The temperatures warmed as the day went on, and we rose out of the canyon trough. There were 25 miles of climbing to the top of the pass at 7400 feet. The landscape of tall peaks, dotted with snow gave way to scrubland on the eastern side. We mostly coasted for the 20 miles down the eastern side of the pass. The road on this side was bordered with high rocky outcrops, and loose stone and stand. We are spending the night in Price, UT, "Home of the Dinosaur".

We start out in Provo, wearing jackets.

As we near the canyon, we notice a crop of wind machines that are generating a lot of power from the headwind coming towards us.

It takes us a couple of hours to reach the top of the pass. We often share a path with the railway, which in fact preceded the building of a road. The views today, are once again spectacular.

Michael (left) and Jim (right) appreciate a moment of rest.

This, at last, is the top. The van is there to supply us with water.

Now, down we go, into the dry and rocky terrain on the eastern side.
